Heroes’ Heaven
(1987)
Starring Christin König, James
Irving, Robert Bramkamp
A film that combines documentary and fantasy in a playful and entertaining way. While the real (ex-)astronaut James Irving preaches at a Christian missionary event in Bielefeld boldly linking the love of Christ with the use of the German space technology, a fictitious astronaut dances jauntily on a moon “high above”, taking his Soviet cosmonaut bride in his arms. Back on earth, where different laws such as those of evil politics prevail, this means bidding each other farewell. “ ... what might an astronaut have become, and what would have happened ... the film describes metaphysics in a wonderfully materialist way, cleverly and cheerfully shows how politics and love belong together ...” (Georg Seeßlen)
